National Small Business Week started in 1963, recognizing the contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. As part of National Small Business Week, the U.S. Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from all 50 states and U.S. territories. Every day, they’re working to grow small businesses, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness.
The SBA has a variety of events schedule for National Small Business Week that you can attend. During this week long recognition, Gov. Malloy has proclaimed May 13th, “Women Owned Business Day” in Connecticut. “Women continue to be the fastest growing sector in the small business community starting new businesses at a rate of 1,288 per day”, according to the Office of Women’s Ownership at the U.S. Small Business Administration. Those numbers are amazing and rightfully should be celebrated for their accomplishments.
Do you know a small business that deserves a National Small Business Week Award? If so here’s your chance to nominate them through the SBA.
Consider challenging yourself during this week and shopping only at small businesses as well as women owned businesses. Show your support for all their hard work and accomplishments. It’s a challenge for any small businesses in a normal economy, but in our current economy even more of a challenge.
